Architectural Portal Mirror

Sometimes nothing beats a simple, well designed mirror to add punch to your room. This mirror is that: “Like compass points, our portal mirror’s bisecting lines create a dynamic focal point. Inspired by a 19th-century English ship’s galley window.”

Each wedge of glass is an individual mirror separated and encircled by hand-carved wood. A warm walnut stain, rubbed to a low luster.

This crystal rocks glass is inspired by the Matterhorn. The designer says “Mountain glass creates fantastic atmosphere when filled half full with liquor. Liquor filled in this glass feels more clear and pure.” Designed by Korea’s Tale Design.

Enji Kunsei Soy Sauce

Enji Kunsei Soy Sauce is smoked. That’s right: smoked. The Japanese are masters of artisanal craft, and this soy sauce reflects that.

Liquids traditionally are difficult to smoke; their delicate composition just can’t stand up to the heat. So, for this soy sauce, artisans in Japan cold-smoked it over cherry wood until it had just the right depth of flavor and a deep, smoky taste. Try it brushed on beef, chicken, fish or vegetables on the grill. Mix it with regular soy sauce to create a marinade for tofu. Or blend it into mayo for a really tasty French fry dip. Delicious!

Bronze Stars

I collect things that are shaped likes stars. Puzzles. Sculptures. Sea creatures. Toys. Cool useless things. These bronze stars are described in a patent as “symmetrical non-Cartesian multiple-axis joining of beams.” But, says the merchant, “we’ll stick with stars, thanks, to describe these objects that deftly fuse mathematics and art.” They are “inspired by a speech given by Buckminster Fuller at Brandeis in the 1960s, John Kostick developed these synergetic structures.”

Hand crafted by the designer. Constructed of bronze wire that will gradually oxidize over time, darkening to a rich brown color with the slight green undertone characteristic of the metal.
